This project is the sum total of small but specific initiatives, thanks to which smiles will be brought more often to the faces of Kenyan children. The goal of the project is to write into the children’s hearts as many beautiful memories as possible, so that, despite a difficult past or painful present, they can in the future relive the moments that had brightened their eyes, infused theirs hearts with hope and made them feel wanted and loved, important and exceptional. Due to their purpose, the initiatives we want to undertake here will be unique and often occasional by nature.
SMILE NUMBER 2
FOR CHILDREN'S DAY 2023, give a blanket, mattress and even a bed to children in Kenya.
The families we visit in Kenya very often live below all living standards, in conditions that affront human dignity.
Many children sleep on wooden planks or on the floor, protecting themselves from the cold night with sack cloths.
These are the children who usually eat only one meal a day and have limited access to drinking water and electricity.
This year's Children's Day can change the situation of at least a few or a dozen of them ... if TOGETHER we raise money for blankets, mattresses and beds for them and then maybe we could also find a soft pillow for their new bed..

SMILE NUMBER 1
- Soon a radiant smile should come to the faces of the children at UPENDO with ST. NICHOLAS DAY, a day treasured by children worldwide.
- We want St Nicholas to find his way to the children at UPENDO CHILDREN’S HOME in Kenya and draw big smiles by bringing presents — sweets, colouring books, jigsaws, balls of all kinds, skipping ropes, hula hoops and more.
Let us prepare some nice surprises for them together for St. Nicholas Day and the first Family Day in UPENDO history.
On this occasion, on 6 December 2022, UPENDO will receive a visit from Bishop James Maria Wainaina, Ordinary of Murang’a in Kenya. To this event we would like to invite our graduates, local friends and benefactors, as well foster families and the relatives of the girls staying with UPENDO.
We will also have a collection for a holiday menu: nyama choma — grilled goat served with chapati (traditional wheat flatbread), beef stew with green peas, carrots, potatoes and other vegetables, as well as white rice and brown rice with ginger. And cabbage, and beans, fruit and, of course, cake, and soft drinks. And if we can afford chicken, we will. At UPENDO, chicken is a true delicacy because poultry prices are extremely unforgiving.
The children miss their loved ones and would very much love to spend CHRISTMAS with them. We hope we can help that dream come true and make sure that every girl can spend some time with closer or more distant family. For those girls who have no families, or not ones they could join safely, we will look for good, loving foster families.
In keeping with local tradition, our girls should leave with an ‘African basket’ full of basic products such as wheat flour, maize flour, rice, sugar, maize, beans and oil. Therefore, we are asking you for donations to fill 40 such ‘baskets’ with food, so that the families we send our children to do not lack proverbial bread during the holiday time.
